SHANTY
I wonder what Kurt Schwitters would have thought of the shanty towns outside of Capetown. I suppose he hasn´t seen them nor did he know about them even though they probably existed already 100 years ago. It´s where the very poor live who never really had a chance of joining not even a small town life and consequently built their own little shanty towns out of practically anything that was available. This arbitrary architecture that is combining different materials with whatever color they can get hold of, is fascinating in its pure aesthetic appearance that still today looks like a huge Schwitters collage from the Merz period, only that it is constantly changing.
